PAVILION – The Pavilion Golden Gophers picked up a second blowout victory over Mount Morris in the last two weeks with a 60-30 home win Monday night.
It was senior night for Pavilion (10-6), and the five veterans played pivotal roles. Senior Erin Cleveland poured in 18 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, both game highs, and fellow senior Danielle Tallo finished with eight points, five rebounds and four assists. The other three Golden Gophers’ seniors, Olivia Griep, Beth Hackett and Megan Waite also made big contributions, scoring five, four and two points, respectively.
Junior Taylor Tillotson scored 14 points, and sophomore K. Abigail Saville added nine points to round out the Golden Gophers’ scoring attack.
Pavilion head coach Vernon Brooks said his team’s focus lead to the 30-point win.
“It was a big night for us being senior night, and we’re a little bit more focused right now because we understand that this is the time of the season when you have to be,” he said.
Mount Morris (8-7) was led by freshman Linda Brado and junior Laisa Pereria who both finished with eight points each. Sophomore Justine Yates added six points and 11 rebounds, and sophomore Shana D’Angelo also scored six points for the Blue Devils.
Mount Morris will host Geneseo Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. then travel to Keshequa next Tuesday before beginning sectional play.
Pavilion will play a home-and-home set with Geneseo, hosting the Blue Devils Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and travelling to Geneseo next Tuesday.
Brooks said the two Geneseo games will be tough tests for his team heading into sectionals.
“We know right now that Geneseo is a good basketball team that is going to be tough competition,” he said. “We’re going to work hard the next four days against what they do and give it our best shot on Saturday night.”
