BASEBALL: Geneseo advances to sectional final

KESHEQUA — The Geneseo Blue Devils moved on to the sectional final, after defeating the Cuba-Rushford Rebels, 6-5, this afternoon.

After four innings, the Blue Devils trailed 5-3, but received RBI singles from centerfielder Jimmy Root and designated hitter Grainger Flint in the fifth and sixth, respectively.

With the game tied at 5 in the bottom of the seventh, leftfielder Tony Belfiore delivered a walk-off RBI single with the bases loaded to send the Blue Devils to the finals.

The Blue Devils will play the winner of Red Jacket and Campbell-Savona on Tuesday. Time and location are to be announced.

Caledonia Rubbish Fire Fills the Sky With Smoke

The smoke was visible from Farview golf Course.

CALEDONIA — The Fire Department had to deal with a remote rubbish fire that filled the sky with a plume of smoke visible for miles.

According to officials the rubbish pile had numerous tiers in it causing the heavy smoke.

The rubbish pile was located about a quarter of a mile off of Rte 5 and 20 between Barks Road and West River Road.

No word yet on the cause of the fire.
