BASEBALL: Geneseo advances in sectionals

GENESEO — The Geneseo Blue Devils advanced to the sectional semifinal, after battling back from three runs down in the seventh to defeat the York Golden Knights 4-3.

The Golden Knights led through six, paced by a solid start from senior right-hander Tyler Shutts.

In the seventh, the Blue Devils mounted a rally to score two to tie and then rightfielder Trevor Mothersell hit a game-winning single into right-centerfield, to give the Blue Devils the win.

Geneseo's next contest will be on Friday, against an oppenent to be determined.

EXCLUSIVE: Village of Avon Goes Green For New Hire

AVON — Local resident Justin Matusak has been hired by the Village as a new full-time laborer employee.

Matusak, 22, who graduated from Avon in 2007, has worked for the Village part time for 3 years. He has a Class B license with air brake endorsement, welding certificate, and just recently he completed a 12-week plant wastewater operations course.

"The Village of Avon is a great community to be able to work for," said Matusak who is also an active member of the Avon Lions Club, "I couldn't ask for anything more."

The position became available since three full-time employees recently retired.
