GENESEO — February can be one of the coldest, dreariest months. Fortunately, Geneseo businesses and organizations have plenty of fun winter events planned to help people stay out of the cold this month.
West Lake Road’s Deer Run Winery is heating things up with a Valentine’s Day event. The Winery’s Wegmans “A Salute to Chocolate” Food and Wine Paring Event occurs on Feb. 10 from 5-8 p.m. Guests can sample chocolate treats from Wegmans paired with some of the winery’s wines. Henry Robinson and Connie Hamilton will entertain guests with live music. The event is open to the public and free of charge.
The fun at Deer Run doesn’t end there. Join them again on Feb. 11 for “Murder, Mystery and Mayhem at the Winery.” “We, The Jury” is a live, audience participation show where the crime has already happened and the audience is the jury. “The Case of the Deadly Cold” is about the death of 96-year-old millionaire John Beresford III. On trial are his doctor, the nurse, the housekeeper and the tutor of his children. Guests are encouraged to decide who is guilty or innocent. The show begins at 6:30 p.m. but guests should arrive at 6. Tickets are $25 and include a glass of wine. Reservations are required. Call (585)346-0850.
Folks who want to keep the cold away with good food while helping a great cause can stop by St. Mary's Parish Center at 13 North Street on Feb. 10 for a gourmet Italian dinner to benefit Hearthside Cats. The dinner starts at 7 p.m. and costs $32 per person. The annual “fun-raising” event also features a silent wine auction and door prizes. Seating is limited. Tickets may be ordered at www.HearthsideCats.org or by calling (585)243-0873 to make reservations. All proceeds benefit Hearthside Cats, Inc., a non-profit organization that helps homeless cats and kittens in the area.
On Feb. 24, fans of dinner theatre can attend “Journey's Dinner Theatre: Enchante Cabaret at The Big Tree Inn” for a romance-themed show following the journeys of Queen of Hearts and Cupid. The afternoon show costs $29.95. The dessert table with coffee and tea starts at 1 p.m. The performance runs from 1:45 - 3:00 p.m. The evening show is $49.95. The three course dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. with a 7:30 - 8:45 PM performance. Dinner consists of garden salad and warm breads. Entree choices are chicken marsala or pork loin. Prices include tax, gratuity, and $5 certificate to use at the Tavern or for a future visit to The Big Tree Inn. “Show only” tickets are $25.00 each for afternoon or evening show.
