Alert Deputy and K9 Arrest Hornell Cousins on Felony Drug Charges

AVON — A Livingston County Sheriff deputy and his well trained K9 arrested two cousins on felony drug charges after a simple traffic stop.

Deputy Shawn Whitford and his K9 Utah arrested Robert Smith, 20, and his cousin Joshua Smith, 23, both from Hornell, for allegedly possessing marihuana, cocaine, and exctasy after the duo cut off an oncoming car at the Mobile gas station at exit 9 off of Interstate 390 in Avon.

Both were charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree, a Class B Felony and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor.  Joshua E. Smith was also charged with Criminal Possession of Marihuana in the 5th Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor.

The Smith Cousins were arraigned before Judge Michael Torregiano in the Town of Avon Court and both were remanded to the Livingston County Jail on $5000 cash bail.  Deputy Michael Williams, Deputy Caleb Cutting, and Sgt. Michael Dougherty assisted.
